ECOWAS: Promoting Economic Integration, Peace, and Development in West Africa

The Economic Community of West African States is referred to as ECOWAS. It is a West African regional intergovernmental organization that promotes economic integration, cooperation, and development among its member countries. ECOWAS was founded on May 28, 1975, by the Treaty of Lagos, and its headquarters is located in Abuja, Nigeria.

The primary objectives of ECOWAS include:

Members

Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, and The Gambia are the 15 member countries of ECOWAS.
